Abstract: The smart cities are also known as ubiquitous cities, intelligent cities, virtual cities, digital cities, knowledge cities which are all perspectives on the idea that ICT is central to the operation of the future cities. To create robust solutions that achieve the goals in smart cities including improved urban environment, human life quality, and city operation systems, the essential tasks focus on the acquisition, integration, and analysis of big and heterogeneous data generated by a diversity of sources in urban spaces, such as sensors, devices, vehicles, buildings, and human. Data analysis towards smart city has attracted significant attention by researchers over the past decade with attempt to solve a myriad of problems in urban spaces. Nevertheless, the study is still in its early stages, and many open questions still need to be investigated. In this presentation, Dr Deng will introduce his recent research in this important field including electric vehicle charging deployment, city road network accessibility measure, weather-traffic index and factor analysis, traffic anomaly detection and causality analysis, crime prediction, mobile phone location estimation, spatio-textural keyword search, statistic spatial query, etc. The common foundation of these studies lies on the effective management and analysis of a huge amount of static data in urban space (e.g. geographical and demographical information) and an even larger set of dynamic data (e.g. trajectory of vehicles or mobile phones). In addition, he will introduce the research plan in his research agenda in the near future.
Biography: Dr Ke Deng is currently an Assistant Professor in RMIT University, Australia. He was awarded a PhD degree in computer science at The University of Queensland in 2007. His research field is in data science with focus on big spatial and temporal data management and analysis. He had been a researcher in Huawei Noah Arks Research Lab, Hong Kong from 2013 to 2015. Before that, he had been an ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellow during 2010-2012. He has published 40+ research papers where 30+ are in top-tier conferences and journals including TKDE, VLDBJ, TODS, ICDE, ICDM, Ubicomp, SIGMOD, PVLDB, etc.
