报告人简介：Dr. Wu started his academic career in 1988, andhas since been on the faculty of Western University, Canada, New YorkPolytechnic University (NYU Poly), and currently McMaster University,where he is a professor at the Department of Electrical & ComputerEngineering and holds the NSERC senior industrial research chair inDigital Cinema. His research interests include image processing,network-aware visual computing and communication, multimedia signalcoding, and multiple description coding. He has published over threehundred research papers and holds five patents in these fields. Dr.Wu is an IEEE fellow, a McMaster distinguished engineering professor,a past associated editor of IEEE Transactions on Image Processing andIEEE Transactions on Multimedia, and served on the technicalcommittees of many IEEE international conferences/workshops.
报告摘要:The main objective of our research is to explore the potential ofsupervised machine learning in face-induced social cognition, ridingon the momentum of much heralded successes of face processing,analysis and recognition on the tasks of biometric-basedidentification. We present a case study of automated statisticalinference on sociopsychological perceptions of female faces controlledfor race, attractiveness, age and nationality. Our empiricalevidences point to the possibility of training machine learningalgorithms, using annotated face images in the Internet, to predictthe first impression of a non-acquaintance in terms of personalitytraits and demeanors. In addition, we also developed new techniquesfor generating realistic face images of given sociopsychological perceptions.
