摘要:A child learns to know the world by absorbing external knowledge and thoughts all through the stages of his development. Following a parallel path, there is a new learning paradigm in machine learning – developmental learning, which aims to upgrade the intelligence of machines in a development context. As time goes on, there often emerge new data, new concept, and even a new domain to help the machine to better understand its environment or situation. Rather remaining stagnant and uninspired, the machine should conform to the trend of the knowledge and keep up with the state of the art. In this talk, I will introduce the paradigm of developmental learning, and the new challenges brought to conventional machine learning problems. Some developmental learning algorithms will be provided in different scenarios, including multiple views, multiple labels, etc. At last, the prospective applications and future directions of this research will be highlighted.  
 
报告人简介:Dr Chang Xu is a Lecturer in Machine Learning and Computer Vision at the School of Information Technologies, University of Sydney. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering from Tianjin University, China, and a Ph.D. degree from Peking University, China. While pursing his PhD degree, Chang received fellowships from IBM and Baidu. His research interests lie in machine learning, data mining algorithms and related applications in artificial intelligence and computer vision, including multi-view learning, multi-label learning, visual search and face recognition. His research outcomes have been widely published in prestigious journals and top tier conferences, including IEEE TPAMI,IEEE TIP,IEEE TNNLS, ICML,IJCAI, etc.
