报告人简介： Professor Yu-Chu Tian is an ongoing professor of computer science at Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He is an ARC (Australian Research Council) recognized expert of international standing. Prof Tian received the PhD degree in computer engineering from the University of Sydney in 2009, and the PhD degree in industrial automation from Zhejiang University in 1993. He worked in a number of universities in the mainland of China, Hong Kong, USA and Australia. Since 2002, he has been with Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, initially as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, later as an Associate Professor and Head of Discipline of Networks and Communications, and currently as a Professor. He has published a monograph and over 200 refereed papers. His current research interests include big data, distributed computing, cloud computing, real-time computing, computer networks, and control theory and engineering. He led establishment QUT’s Netcom Discipline and Big Data Lab. He is the editor-in-chief for Springer’s Handbook of Real-Time Computing, and an Associate Editor for a few international journals.

报告摘要： Now there is a buzzword everywhere: Big Data. Big data processing and its cloud implementation rely crucially on scheduling and management of various resources. How are we going to provide optimized resources for big data processing and cloud computing? This talk will discuss our recent effort in development of theory and practical solutions in three levels of resource optimization: application assignment, virtual machine placement and physical machine management. Then, we will also introduce our recent work on resource optimization for cloud computing with real-time QoS requirement. The concepts we have investigated can be extended to other aspects of cloud computing such as SaaS.
