报告人简介: Jingling Xue received his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science and
Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1984 and 1987, respectively, and his PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Edinburgh University in 1992. He is currently a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia, where he heads the Programming Languages and Compilers Group. Jingling Xue's main research interest has been programming languages and compilers for over 20 years. He is currently supervising a group of postdocs and PhD students on a number of topics including programming and compiler techniques for multi-core processors and embedded systems, concurrent programming models, static and dynamic program distributed systems. His research has been supported by Intel, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, Huawei and Australian Research Council. Jingling Xue is an Associate Editor for several journals including IEEE Transactions on Computers (2011 -- 2015) and Software: Practice and Engineering and has served as a program committee member in numerous conferences in his field. He is an expert of the state's "1,000 talents" plan and a Yangtze river scholars distinguished professor.
报告摘要: Many universities require PhD students to publish at least X number of peer-reviewed papers, where X >= 1, before they can graduate. However, getting a paper published in top journals and/or conferences in Computer Science can be a very tedious and time-consuming process. Often, a paper with excellent contributions gets rejected due to poor writing and organization. In this talk, I shall summarize what research writing is in Computer Science and how one goes about it. I shall also discuss how to avoid a set of pitfalls that occur in many rejected computer science papers.
