报告人简介：
Liming Chen studied at the first Franco-Chinese experimental class of mathematics at the University of Wuhan in 1980 through 1983. He received the joint B.Sc. degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Nantes, Nantes, France, in 1984, and the M.Sc. degree and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Paris 6, Paris, France, in 1986
and 1989, respectively. He served as an Associate Professor with the Universite de Technologie de Compiegne. He joined the
École Centrale de Lyon, Écully, France, in 1998, as a Professor, where he leads an advanced research team on multimedia
computing and pattern recognition. From 2001 to 2003, he served as the Chief Scientific Officer with Paris-based company, Avivias, Paris, specialized in media asset management. In 2005, he also served as a Scientific Multimedia
Expert with France Telecom Research and Development China, Beijing, China. He has been the Head of the Department of
Mathematics and Computer Science since 2007. Prof. Chen has taken out three patents, authored over 200 publications, and
has acted as the Chairman, a PC Member, and a reviewer for a number of high profile journal and conferences since 1995. He
has been a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator of a number of research grants from the European Union Framework Program for Research and Technological Development, French Research Funding Bodies, and Local Government
Departments. He has directed over 30 Ph.D. theses. His current research spans from 2D/3D face analysis and recognition, and
image and video analysis and categorization, to affect analysis both in image, audio and video.
Prof.Chen’s group is the recipient of the best performance at the ImageCLEF Photo Annotation Challenge and the Shrec 2011
contest for 3D face recognition and retrieval.

报告摘要：Human face plays a prominent role in our daily interactions and its automatic analysis and recognition has a broad range of
applications, including security, human computer interactions, etc. Recent years have witnessed the release of 3D sensors
making the capture of 3D face readily available and enabling face analysis and recognition through 3D face geometric shape
theoretically robust to lighting and pose changes. In this talk, I am presenting the opportunities and challenges of this new face
modality and showing state of the art solutions, including our own works, to deal with face recognition and facial expression
analysis.
