BiographicalSketch:Kai Hwangis a Professor of EE/CS at the University of SouthernCalifornia (USC). He is also an EMC-endowed visiting Chair Professor atTsinghua University. He received the Ph.D. from University of California,Berkeley in 1972. 
He has published 8 books and over 240 scientific papers incomputer architecture, parallel processing, distributed systems,
 cloudcomputing and network security. Dr. Hwang is a Life Fellow of IEEE ComputerSociety. He received the very-first Outstanding Achievement Award from ChinaComputer Federation in 2004 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from 
IEEECloud2012 for his pioneering work in parallel computing and distributedsystems. Hwang has performed advisory, consulting
 and collaborative work forIBM, Intel, MIT Lincoln Lab, JPL at Caltech, ETL in Japan, Academia Sinica inChina, GMD in Germany,

报告摘要：Abstract:In this talk, Prof. Hwang offers an integratedapproach to upgrading cloud platforms, machine learning and big data
 analytics.He will cover recent advances in Hadoop and Spark programming on elastic serverclusters used in modern clouds. 
He will assess Spark programming over Hadoopfor in-memory MapReduce computation, support of streaming execution mode,  andimplementing machine learning and graph processing algorithms, efficiently. Hewill illustrate the advantages of Spark over 
Hadoop in social-media, mobilenetworks, business intelligence, big data and IoT applications. Theseinnovative applications will  enhance the global economy and upgrade the QoS inmany of today’s cloud, web and mashup services.
